SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons for ages 6 months to adults. Registration opens May 4 at Jumpa Area Recreation Park District.

Location:  Rubidoux High School Pool

Swimming Lessons (Ages:  6 Months & UP)

All classes are subject to time changes, mergers, and/or cancellation if miniumu enrollment is not met.  Participants may only register for one session at a time to ensure proper tracking of swim progress.  Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  All classes are taught be American Red Cross certified staff.  Minimum enrollment:  3 participants per class. 

PARENT AND CHILD AQUATICS (AGES: 6 MONTHS – 3YRS)  

Introduces and builds basic water safety skills for parents and children, helping infants and young children ages 6 months to about 3 years old. Infants must wear swim diapers under their suits. A parent or other adult caregiver must accompany each child into the water and participate in each class. Maximum 10 students with parents.  

PRESCHOOL AQUATICS (AGES: 4 - 5YRS)  

Orients preschool-age children to the aquatic environment emphasizing water safety, survival, and foundational concepts. Children need to be potty trained or wear swim diapers under their suits.   

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  6  

LEARN-TO-SWIM (FOR SWIMMERS ABOUT 6YRS & UP)  

LEVEL 1:  INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS  

Aids participants in feeling more comfortable in water. Continue developing positive attitudes towards water activities, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water are learned.   

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  6  

LEVEL 2:  FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS   

Participants gain success and improve upon fundamental skills, including floating without support and recovering to a vertical position. Prerequisite: Valid American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 1 certificate or successful demonstration of all certification requirements from Level 1.   

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  6  

LEVEL 3:  STROKE DEVELOPMENT                                                                      

Build upon skills learned in Level 2 through additional guided practice in deeper waters. Prerequisite: Valid American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 2 certificate or successful demonstration of all certification requirements from Level 2.  

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  10  

LEVEL 4: STROKE IMPROVEMENT   

Develop confidence practicing the strokes learned in Level 3 and acquire new aquatic skills. Prerequisite: Valid American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 3 certificate or successful demonstration of all certification requirements from Level 3.  

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  10  

LEVEL 5 - STROKE REFINEMENT 

Improve skills learned in Level 4 as you strengthen stamina in the water. Prerequisite: Valid American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 4 certificate or successful demonstration of all certification requirements from Level 4.  

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  10 

ADULT – SWIMMING LESSONS                                                                                                                                                                                                             

 Learn the fundamentals of swimming from a certified instructor.  

Minimum enrollment: 3 per class; Maximum:  8
