Temporary Closure of Pleasant Valley Park

Subject: Temporary Closure of Pleasant Valley Park
Dear Community Members,

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, a fire occurred in the City of Jurupa Valley involving a waste truck at the intersection of Wineville and Park Center Dr. As part of the Riverside County Fire Department's firefighting efforts, a firefighting foam was used to suppress the flames. This foam ultimately mixed with the water used in fighting the fire and flowed into the storm drain near the incident. Riverside County Fire Hazardous Material Response Team and Riverside County Environmental Health Department were dispatched to the scene as a result. It was determined that the materials ultimately washed through the storm drainage system into a retention basin at Pleasant Valley Park. As a result, the retention basin is currently considered potentially contaminated, and the potentially contaminated soil must be removed in a secure manner and then replaced with clean soil. The safety of residents within the area is our number one concern. As a result, Pleasant Valley Park is currently closed and will remain closed until all potential contamination is properly removed from the site and the site is restored. The waste hauling provider has contracted a hazardous waste clean-up team.
Out of an abundance of caution, approximately four feet of soil from the bottom of the basin will be excavated and tested for potential contamination. New soil will also be imported once the site is deemed safe, and then new turf will be installed. While none of the potentially contaminated water reached the play equipment, picnic tables, or basketball court, the entire facility will be steam-cleaned and pressure-washed before reopening.
The District is actively assessing the situation and working with local authorities, including the City of Jurupa Valley and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health, to conduct a thorough and proper cleanup, testing and restoration. Until these measures are complete and the area is deemed safe, the park will remain closed to public access.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation for the safety of all during this time. Updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available. Updates can be found on our website at https://www.jarpd.org/pleasant-valley-park
