Wave Karate
A Kyokushin system. By practicing Wave Karate, students will improve their physical fitness, confidence and self-defense. Adults and children can participate at their individual pace. Instructor Paul Swan Van Lent is a 4th Degree black belt and has been practicing since 1980. Instructor Kevin Wilson is a 1st Degree black belt and has been practicing since 1999. Class continues year round. Participants may register for one day a week (half class) or two days a week (full class). Students have the opportunity to earn belts and compete in tournaments. Tot Time
Tot Time is a recreational program for children 3 to 5 years old taught by our Recreation Staff. Children are provided with daily activities including arts and crafts, outdoor play, sports, group games, cooking, story time, singing and snack. Cooperative play, sharing, participation, building self-esteem and independence are emphasized. Class is limited to 40 participants. All Children must be potty trained.  Summer Youth Basketball
This is a 7 week recreational league for girls & boys with 2 weeks of practice. Registration begins May 1, 2008. Last day to register is June 6, 2008. A copy of the player’s birth certificate is required at time of registration. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. Practice days and times will be Tuesdays & Thursdays or Mondays & Wednesdays dependent on coach availability, number of teams, and gymnasium schedule. Practices will begin on June 23, 2008. Hurry and register for our swim lessons held at Veterans Memorial Pool. Registration begins on May 1st. All instructors are Red Cross Certified and the class ratio is 5 students per instructor.

For swimmers ages 3-5 years old with little or no water experience.

Level 2—Fundamental Aquatic Skills:
For shallow water swimmers ages 5 and up with little or no water

Level 3—Stroke Development:
Swimmers who are able/comfortable to submerse their face and
swim a distance of at least 5 yards by using either freestyle or back-
stroke.

Level 4—Stroke Improvement:
For deep water swimmers who can swim 10 yards front crawl and

This low impact class will use the water for resistance. The water’s buoyancy decreases stress on hips, knees, ankles and feet!

Lifeguard Training
Want to get paid while hanging out at the pool? Interested in becoming a lifeguard this summer? This 40 hour course provides participants with the necessary American Red Cross certifications to lifeguard. Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Fee includes materials. Class is limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required. Bring lunch! Participants must attend all class dates. Completion of course does not guarantee passing or certification of course.
Individuals who successfully complete course are encouraged to apply for open positions with J.A.R.P.D.

“Steps To Self Publishing Your 1st Book”

This workshop will provide step by step instructions on how to write and publish your 1st book! Natural Horsemanship
Looking to safely improve your riding ability? Students will learn practical hands-on techniques to improve their ability to handle and ride their horses safely and effectively, whether English or Western. Includes both ground work and riding exercises. Students must be able to saddle, bridle & mount unassisted (mounting block will be provided). Instructor Mary Dukes has over 40 years experience as a horse trainer and instructor. Minimum of 6 students. Maximum of 14. This is a 6 week course. Students must provide own horse and equipment. All Applicants must be between the ages of 13 - 17 years old.

    Kids classes designed for fun and exploration of movements, free dancing, and group dancing. Through play your child will learn the Belly Dance basics, freestyle and choreography. Hip Scarf required. See instructor for more information. Each session is 6 weeks. Minimum 6 students.
